Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

My students have autism spectrum disorder (ASD). They are in 6th-8th grade and are in a self-contained ASD classroom. My students range in the developmental range of 5 years old to 12 years old. Academically, my students function 2 years old to 10 years old.

Our students love being back to school in-person.

Since being back to in-person learning since January 2021, our students have really started to love learning. We have been able to start to read some literature classics. It is amazing to see them enjoy some of the classics.

My Project

My ASD students have really started to love to read classic literature since the start of the pandemic. Reading literary classics together during our daily zoom meetings has helped them learn about some of the adventurous stories that were written long ago. They have loved reading Tom Sawyer and The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. With the literary classics that we are now requesting we hope they will continue with their love of reading and increasing their reading comprehension skills. Since we have started reading more adventurous books they look forward to our reading time everyday.
