Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

The materials for this project allow the students to have hands-on manipulative materials for literacy, writing, and math centers! The DonorsChoose community has given my classroom the Tonie Boxes to us for centers. They have been such an effective and wonderful addition to our classroom and have improved comprehension, attention to stories, and listening skills. Students love being read to and using our hands-on centers. It quickly became a classroom favorite.

Research supports the benefits of hands-on learning with young learners.

The young minds building their skills in kindergarten are setting foundational education blocks for the rest of their educational careers. Supporting these initial educational building blocks will set up students for success in their education.

The Tonie Boxes will be added to the classroom boxes to offer a larger ELA station, the hands-on materials will be alternated to ensure engagement with the centers. The sketching journals will be used for writing and math centers to engage in writing practice as well as math practice in their personal journals.
