My students need a Microsoft Surface Laptop, a Luxor Chromebook Charging Cart, and a Cricut Explore Air 2 to keep our coding technology growing and safe in the classroom.
My students are eager learners, and providing a space where they can exercise their mind and body will pave a great path for them in the future! I am a third grade teacher working at a Title I School where 80.7% of students qualify for free or reduced rate lunch.
I have a very diverse group of kids.
Our classroom community has students with Vietnamese, Chinese, Caucasian, Mexican, Russian, Native American, and African American students. They bring a wealth of experiences, ideas, and cultural perspectives into the classroom. Growing up as a minority with less, I understand the importance of creating a classroom that is built with love, respect, and a sense of community. I strive to help my third graders push beyond their disadvantages and help them become lifelong learners and critical thinkers.
My Project
One of my goals as a teacher is to continue to expose my students to S.T.E.M based projects. I want to give them access to more materials that will let them dive deep into their creativity, while challenging themselves through subjects such as coding.
Integrating coding through robotics in literacy will stretch their understanding even further.
Reading and Writing should be an organic process in which students become inspired by their life experiences and the things around them. My students will code and interact with the robots and code cars that they have in the classroom. In order to get complete ease and functionality of the robots and materials, they need at least one laptop in the classroom to use. They will use the laptop to use programs to control the robots to re-enact a scene in a story. They will also plan their imaginative writing story by creating the climax of the story with the robots. To complete the scene, they will draw out their setting on butcher paper, and then program the robots to to navigate the paper. This will truly integrate S.T.E.M in literacy and writing.
The Cricut Explore Air 2 Machine will increase creativity and their artistry into their projects. Alongside coding, and programming their robots to retell their story, they will also cut out certain images and writing to add to their map.
The LUXOR chromebook cart will help keep our chromebooks and kindle fires safe and charged, ready to be used for coding! Having a safe place for our technology will make sure that my students will continue to have access to S.T.E.M materials.
