Help me give my students reading tools to practice their learning of sounds using math manipulatives, an iPad to allow me to monitor their progress on their targeted reading goals, and tools for post-covid anxiety.
Students at our charter school choose to come to our unique school for a variety of reasons. They themselves come from a variety of backgrounds. Here at SHES, we aim to provide our students with an engaging, active, outdoor, and personal educational experience. In partnership with local state parks and our evolving campus, we provide place-based learning experiences to all of our scholars.
We are committed to small class sizes.
Because of this, our students experience more one on one time with their teachers and develop strong bonds with their peers at school.
During the Covid-19 pandemic, we have been able, with our students, to be adaptive and flexible to continue to reach the goals and mission of our school charter. We are keeping learning engaging and rigorous for our students and they love it. Students at SHES are resilient, respectful, curious, and getting better every day.
My Project
As the Special Education Teacher, my job is to help make all kids successful. I focus on finding the gaps in my students' learning through research-based assessments and using the science of reading to ensure growth.
The items selected will help me prepare exceptional lessons to ensure student learning by assessing using the iPad and the manipulatives to help my students get a deeper understanding of the sound/letter connection and syllable rule division.
Knowing the pandemic had effects on the social-emotional development of my students as well as academics, I am also focused on making sure I have a toolbox to support their needs in personal growth. Teaching post-pandemic has added a layer to every teacher's responsibilities and while I am happy to take it on, I would love to be as prepared as possible using the tools I have selected for behavior.
