My students are an amazing group of 46 boys and girls. We have begun our year learning about each other through ice breakers and student involvement activities. This group is working hard to overcome language barriers, socio-economic barriers, and personal differences. They have each accepted that we are doing a kindness challenge this year to make us better people. That is what the world needs!
I am lucky to teach two very unique groups this year: English Language Learners and students on the Autism Spectrum.
I have already witnessed the compassion that students have for each other when overcoming obstacles that other students have (and it’s only day 4)! I cannot wait to see how these students develop into life-long learners.
My Project
Many of my students are English Language Learners or have low reading levels. This project will enable students to listen to books as they follow along in class. The Hamilton listening station will allow students to sit anywhere in the room and hear the book. Therefore, no child needs to feel singled out his/her reading level. To promote even more literature in the classroom, we will combine art to create our own books so we also need the comb binding system. Students are learning many different genres in my fifth grade English Language Arts class, now they will be able to create their own books to allow deeper understanding of text elements.
Imagine a classroom full of students that are able to create their own books with a hands-on approach using the Fellowes bookbinding system!
What could possibly drive learning goals more than this?!
