My school is a Title One school in Washington, D.C. I am a fourth-grade teacher at an elementary school in a large urban community. My students are a diverse group of 100 children whose special needs range from autism, ADHD, emotionally disturbed, to English Language Learners.
My students love to explore and learn!
Most of my students come from a low-income community and lack many resources. My students are always asking to use computers to learn more in our classroom.
The only problem we have is that I frequently hear, "My computer is not working again!" The three desktops we have are always freezing up and are very slow to download any website, making it very difficult for the students to use and learn. My students would love to have an iPad that works well and is reliable.
My Project
Our new MacBook Air laptop will have many uses in my classroom. The students will use it to work on their reading fluency skills, comprehension skills, math skills, writing, and typing skills. They will also use it for learning about science and social studies. Moreover, my students will use this desktop with the Smart Board in all aspects of learning (across all subject areas). They will use it for reading comprehension, science, history, as well as interactive learning games. They will be more excited, active, and engaged in their learning. The new computer will allow this learning to happen. My students will be both engaged and excited!
I believe this laptop will help improve my students reading comprehension skills, math, and science skills, as well as help them develop a love for these curriculum areas.
