This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
As an educator, I am going into my eighth year of teaching. However, this is my first year teaching at my new elementary school in Washington D.C. My school is departmentalized. I am the ELA teacher for the entire 1st grade and I work with 40 students in total.
I have 2 classes of 20 students each!
One group of students I see in the morning, the other group I see in the afternoon. I am doing my very best to provide a literacy-rich and engaging environment for my students! I have created this project to increase engagement amongst my learners this school year!
My Project
I teach at a Title 1 school in Washington D.C. where 100% of my students are economically disadvantaged. I want the best for them and I'd like to make our classroom more engaging with additional access to digital e-book libraries and literacy-based websites. I have created free classroom accounts for websites such as Get Epic, Reading IQ, and ABC Mouse. We also have a class subscription to Flocabulary (an online learning site where students can learn literacy skills with music.)
Limited technology does not allow students to access these educational sites as often as I would hope.
Incorporating more technology into our classroom would make a wonderful difference. These Amazon kindles will be added to our daily rotation allowing students to access them several times throughout the week! Please help us reach our goal!!
