My Students

I work as a Head Start teacher teaching 3 and 4-year-olds who come from all different backgrounds and abilities. Head Start serves children who are at or below the poverty level and who may or may not have experienced

abuse, trauma, or loss of a parent due to death or incarceration, just to name a few hardships.

My kids are so eager to learn. They love reading, exploring with their hands and love music. They teach me so much every day. Despite their backgrounds, they are kind, caring and patient.

My Project

Every week my kids pick two books to take home and read with their families. Our books are old and many have been repaired several times. I would also like to introduce new reading materials in our classroom library.

My kiddos get so excited when new books arrive and they love to sit in our quiet area and read.

Sometimes they read by themselves and sometimes they read with friends. Although my kiddos cannot read words, they look at the pictures in the books and make up their own stories. This helps to expand their creativity, imagination and friendships.
