This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I dream of giving my students the magical ability Martin describes here: the gift of living a a thousand lives and an ability to see the world from even more magical perspectives.

However, in order to do so, I require the tools necessary to inspire their imaginations. We all have felt that rush of losing ourselves in a good book as our surroundings melt away and we are lost in another world. So many of my students have been robbed of just such an experience by simply not being able to afford quality books. This is even more important in a world where Covid has robbed so many of my students of years of their life.

When I started at my school, there was no library on campus. I have attempted to build one myself over the last six years from generous donations and my own pocket. My options have always been limited by my budget and I lament the fact that my kids are missing out on so many incredible authors and works. To reach every reader I need access to a diverse set of books from many different genres. This project will help me acquire a library's worth of new and exciting titles that will help galvanize my students into life-long readers!
