This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My amazing 5th graders come from diverse backgrounds facing various obstacles. Our school is a Title I school and all of our students receive free lunch. My students enjoy telling stories and jokes.
My students are thoughtful and full of questions.
Although the method and environment in which they learn best vary from others, they love hands-on active engaging learning. Many of them come to class daily saying they could not complete assignments due to lack of resources.
My Project
These reading intervention folders will continue to enhance the print-rich classroom that I strive to create. They will boost comprehension skills—with high-interest lessons that can help turn struggling readers into confident readers! These folders are designed for small groups of students who need extra support, and include different high-interest stories carefully leveled for struggling readers—with irresistible topics and magazine-style graphics that keep older students engaged.
With these reading intervention folders, my students will be able to choose from a variety of texts that will allow them to read independently at their own grade level and develop skills in vocabulary, recalling facts and details, reading for meaning and using comprehension strategies to understand text.
They will also be able to choose stories that interest them. The best way to increase reading ability is to read more, and these reading intervention folders will continue to help my students grow stronger in reading. My students already have shown an astonishing interest in independent reading, and this project will only help enrich their experiences with the printed word.
