This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I have an amazing group of students ranging from kindergarten to third grade. Some of them spend most of their school day with me, while others are able to be part of a general education classroom. While they all have diverse learning needs, one thing that they all have in common is a desire to learn and to take that learning and develop it into something that can help the school community as a whole. Even on my worst days my students are able to bring a smile to my face and warmth to my heart. Their level of determination and commitment to excellence is not only inspiring, but humbling. My students don't have much materialistically, but their presence will be felt for years to come.
My Project
My students need various reading interventions in order to strengthen their literacy skills. Although my students are in Kindergarten through 3rd grade, their literacy levels are well below their same aged peers. In order to push them and help them show growth, I need intervention strategies, by grade level.
Learning doesn't only happen in the school, it happens at home too.
In order to help families and students work together to improve their literacy, I am requesting a kit designed for families and students to work with me, as their special education teacher, in working on increasing their literacy skills at home.
