Aloha! I teach at an urban elementary school rich with diversity. Students come from across the world to live in beautiful Hawaii Nei. The majority of my students come from the Pacific Islands and are of low socioeconomic status.
In our classroom, we are an ohana.
I want my students to love school, feel comfortable, and most importantly, feel safe. My students love learning through hands-on, engaging activities. In our classroom, I provide students with choices for learning and encourage their inner leaders.
My Project
This project will provide my students with opportunities to continue their literacy learning outside of the curriculum.
Effective literacy centers allow for student choice.
Literacy centers promote student collaboration, facilitate student motivation, and provide targeted practice for students.
My students use the literacy center when they are finished with their work, as well as during reading group rotations every day. Students will benefit from this project because it is important that they have activities that can be done independently and at their appropriate reading level. These literacy games can be rotated throughout the entire year to complement our reading strategies and goals. Please help me replenish the literacy center with meaningful activities that engage students in enhancing their learning. These kids are eager to read!
