My students need a variety of reading materials that are within reach for them to read and understand to help them develop into independent beginning readers.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I am a first year teacher teaching in Detroit Public Schools. The school I will be in is very community based and houses students grades K-8. I anticipate my kindergarten class to come in with an excitement to learn and grow together in our classroom community/family.
This will be many of my students' first times in a classroom so their expectations for teachers, school and learning will be set in my class; I would love to put my best foot forward for not only my class, but school and education as a whole.
My Project
The only way to grow at reading is to read every day and see the value of reading across contents. These materials will help my students gain confidence in their reading as we begin exploring how letters and sounds come together to make words. The magazines and guided reading books will show my students the variety of ways they can be literate whether through magazines or formal books. We will discover our world through scholastic news and spin and engage in books and develop skills as readers and decoders. As a new teacher it would be a blessing to myself and my students to have these resources available for our continued use.
