Was learning to read a challenging task to you as a child or were you one of the fortunate ones that it came natural to? Help my students' love of reading grow through a literacy listening center!
I have a classroom of 22 amazing third grade students that brighten my day every time I walk through the door.
They are hard working, compassionate, caring, and wonderful students who attend a classroom with no technology accessible to them except for the one to two times per week in their technology specials class. Some of my students are wonderful readers, while others struggle to find the joy that a book can bring. Through this literacy center, I think that students will be engaged in reading while gaining vital reading skills through listening to auditory books.
My Project
My class needs a CD player and set of headphones for a listening center, along with a starter collection of various levels of books on CD. Since I am hoping to have four students at the listening center at a time, we will need an extra copy of each book in order for students to share and be able to follow along with the words. With this amazing gift, I will be able to show students how fun reading is and improve their reading skills through auditory books. All students can benefit from hearing stories be read to them while following along, and with this center I hope to deeply impact and support my lowest readers, while also keeping all students engaged and loving reading. I have chosen some of the most popular books that students are reading, at more than one level, so that all students can find one that will interest them and get them even more excited about the adventures that reading can bring.
Reading can be daunting to some students, especially those who are behind grade level.
A listening center will allow further reading support to students at times that I am not able to be there as their extra support. There is so much value in reading and so much to be learned and gained from it and I want each of my students to learn to appreciate and love the words in a book, so that they will be successful in whatever it is that they choose to do in their lives.
