Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Remember that book that sucked you in and brought you on a far away adventure? I want to instill this love for reading into the heads of my own students. My job is to provide these successful literacy opportunities to my students, but I need resources.

My students are amazing!

They are intelligent, caring, charismatic people. They work hard and truly want to learn, but many have not had many positive life experiences. Most of my students come from extremely low working class backgrounds and they haven't all had the most positive academic experiences. Many of my kids do not have even one book in their home to read. They are kids who fight against all odds just to make it to school every day. Some don't have a permanent residence, and even more worry about what is for dinner each night. My school is their safe haven, their advocate, their support system. For many of my kids, school is the only place where they feel people care about them. We work hard to create a supportive environment that welcomes these kids who face such extreme trauma in their every day lives.

My Project

I fill my classroom with great books of all types in hopes that each of my students will find at least a handful of books that interest them. This can be difficult at times, especially when it comes to nonfiction. In our classroom we integrate science and social studies with literacy. My students are fascinated by facts and history. With this assistance from amazing people like those of you who are reading this I will be better equipped to teach my kiddo about the world around them. I have also requested copies of novels that I will read aloud to the class. The students in my class love to follow along as I read and they often take turns. This project would increase engagement in my class and allow all of my students develop as readers. My goal is to provide my students with all the resources necessary to prepare them to be successful, knowledgeable people, with this project I will be a giant step closer to making that happen.

Donating towards this project will help my students more than you know.

When the kids receive these books and find out that they come from adults who value them as learners it gives them motivation and comfort . Your donations reassure them that people care. This is powerful coming from kids who may not even get that comfort at home. This will instill permanent memories and learning. Many of my students will grow as readers with the engaging texts in this project.
