Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Do you remember what it was like to love a book so much you couldn't put it down? My students have been reading books to be able to take Accelerated Reading tests that allow them to earn points for rewards. This program has given them the motivation they need to be great readers.
My students share a love for learning and are at a Title One School.
They live in a low socioeconomic area and majority of them are on free/reduced lunch. They have the will and drive to learn and come to school eager everyday! Their backgrounds do not hinder their desire to learn new things.
My Project
The Google Chromebooks will allow my students the opportunity to build on reading comprehension. They will also allow them more time to take Accelerated Reading tests over books that we have read together or that they read on their own. These are short tests that test their comprehension of the book. The students receive points for each test and earn rewards when they achieve a certain amount of points. They are always thrilled when they complete a book and can take a test. This program builds up their confidence as readers!
These Chromebooks are important because they will help integrate technology in the classroom.
They will also help my students to build on their reading confidence so that they can create a love for reading. I want my students to be able to have a passion for reading, and with the Chromebooks, we will be able to start building that together!
