Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are living in an area that is economically, severely depressed. But, young people have dreams and it is my goal to help them attain their goals. One young lady wants to have a career in medicine. She came to me and asked for a referral letter to be a volunteer at a local hospital. She interviewed and wrote an essay and IS A VOLUNTEER AT THAT HOSPITAL!!! She is on the way to her dream. Help me help, help others.
My Project
The majority of my students are English language learners. Many come from struggling families, or single parent homes. I have actually had students who explain that they can not afford to buy a pencil for class. Normally I would question that but after experiencing poverty myself I totally understand. I want to provide my students with necessities and fun resources. Studies show that fun activities increase interest and motivation. Games like Scrabble and Bananagrams in my cart incorporate higher levels of thinking while having a good time. All other items create a culture that facilitates learning. Your donations will help guarantee higher levels of engagement and immersion in the language.
