This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are my babies. I teach kindergarten at a school that is considered a Title 1 school where 80% of my students are on free lunch. I even have a student that is homeless at this time. Considering their conditions my students are always striving for excellence. They are hard workers and very eager to learn.
Our classroom is a safe place of many of my students.
Many come in tired and sleepy. Some even come in hungry. In spite of all of that they still give me 100% and then some. They want to learn and our home away from home is a safe and caring place where they can be the best that they can be.
My Project
My students need literacy centers that are both educational and fun. By receiving these items (Touch & Read Phonics Match and Sight-Word Puzzles) my students will be able to enhance the skills that are being taught both as a whole class and in guided reading. Not only will the items help my students build lifelong literacy skills, they will also build lifelong social skills because many of the activities encourage teamwork to complete the task. For example when using the letter building tiles they will work together to build cvc words or their sight words. They can make teams to see who can come up with the most words. This just a small example of what they will be able to do.
