My students need to learn via reading and literacy in the target language. By incorporating magazines with interesting relevant articles in Spanish they will engage with the language and explore Spanish in new ways!
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
We are a very diverse group of students who come from all walks of life. We serve a large population of underprivileged students who receive free and reduced lunches, but who don’t let anything hold them back from achieving their goals. My students explore Spanish and work towards the IB and AP exams. We are currently expanding the IB program as we work to mold our students into globally competitive young adults. With your help we can build a classroom environment that helps them to grow their 21st century skills and become ready for the real world.
My Project
My students can engage with Spanish via articles and interesting activities in order to learn and grow their vocabulary. These magazines will help them to learn to enjoy reading and literacy in Spanish. The idea that students can see and read interesting, age appropriate information with vocabulary driven content in Spanish is an ideal way to reinforce vocabulary and content. Students will also be exposed to traditions and cultural information from other countries that they may otherwise not have the means to explore. Literacy skills are extremely important in today’s society and as we work to mold our students into globally competitive citizens, reading is the first step.
