"Math has a lot of negative stereotypes, but it can actually be fun and incredibly empowering." Danica McKellar
Students need to see different ways of math that are unique and more natural for them to understand. Using literature to help students understand is going to be the key to success.
I teach in a small rural school in Iowa.
We have a very unique atmosphere and the kids are wonderful to work with. One of the greatest struggles that my students have is with math and understanding the abstract concepts. I am searching for new ways to bring math to life for them. All of my students have great personalities and I want them to feel that math is its own personality too. I want them to enjoy math every second of every day through the different projects that we do and the tools I provide for them.
My Project
Students will be using math related picture books for the chapters that we cover in relation to the books I have chosen. The books will be utilized as a resource for students--an extra tool or example so that they can fully understand the math concepts. I also will be using these books for my elementary TAG program to enhance the level of learning for the younger students and use the books for different hands-on activities with TAG.
I believe that through this project I can empower my students and make them feel confident in their education and in themselves.
These students work extremely hard to achieve what they do, and this will only make things better for my students to shine in their education.
