Celebrate Black Teachers and Students
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students come to school every day ready to give and do their best. And their best is all I could ask for!
The students I teach are inquisitive, creative and hard working. When faced with challenging math problems, they face them head on! They look for patterns and relationships between the numbers; they apply previously taught skills to help them solve the problems. They persevere and encourage each other. They use math drawings all the time. They are Mathematicians!
My Project
Many of my students struggle with literacy and math, so I want to provide them with math related books to help them improve in these subjects. The books I have selected all relate to a math concept we will learn throughout the year and they range in reading levels. Students will have opportunities to engage with the books independently, during small group or as a whole class read aloud.
Having a math-centered library will help my students to improve in math and literacy! My students will have the chance to pick up a book to help them gain a better understanding of a math skill they have been struggling with. These books will also help improve their reading. Some of my students struggle more with reading than math, so a student can grab a book of a math skill that they have mastered and use that book to help them improve their reading by using phonics and decoding strategies to get through the book. I look forward to seeing my students grow as budding mathematicians and great readers!
