This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students come from an under served district that have left them behind. They come from all over the surrounding area to get the best college preparation education, that unfortunately, is denied them because of their lack of privilege. More importantly, they yearn to learn more about their own history and the histories and stories of other people of color.
My Project
This book set is part of an overall unit focusing on how point of view can impact the experiences and historical narratives of certain events. By juxtaposing the lives of the two central characters, students see for themselves how a character's point of view can shape the historical narrative of right and wrong. This is an important skill to learn for thinking like historians.
This set is also an amazing opportunity for students to not only learn about the experiences of people of color, but also tackle with complex historical questions of justice and power.
