Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
As a teacher in a low income/high poverty neighborhood, I believe all students should have equal access to materials regardless of their socioeconomic status. They have just as much curiosity and love of learning despite the economic challenges their families face each day. All they need is a chance to succeed.
Over 75% of my students are on free/reduced lunch, yet they come to class with smiles on their faces and an eagerness to learn something new each and every day.
It's my job to provide an enriched learning environment so that they have the opportunity to participate in hands-on science. All they need are a few generous donors that believe in the importance of education and science literacy along with a willingness to support their educational needs.
My Project
With these books I want to create a classroom library that will enhance science literacy in biology. All of these books have been chosen with my students in mind. I'm sure with this collection of books each student will find something that interests them. Students will be able to choose books, which will help them gain a better understanding of the science of biology.
With these new books, my students will build their science literacy in biology by having a variety of books to choose from that delve into many interesting biological topics.
The best way to increase science literacy is to read more about science, and these books will continue to help my students grow stronger in their understanding of the natural world.
