Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our students come from a variety of different cultural and economic backgrounds. All of the students receive free meals. The district I work at serves the most diverse students in the community. We have students that come to school from homeless shelters and students who are refugees. The students speak a variety of languages. Despite many of the students' hardships, they come to school eager to learn and play with their peers and teachers. The school is located in a city in Arizona. The classroom, I work in is a self-contained autism classroom. The students have a variety of interests and needs.
My Project
The resources I am requesting include manipulatives for large group reading times. Many of my students are nonverbal and very engaged in songs and using hands on materials. Many of them also are not yet reading. These manipulatives will help teach my students various finger plays to engage them during story times. Some of the materials include, a flannel board for the students to take turns placing their pieces of the story on the board at the appropriate times. This will also give students practice with sequencing. Other materials include flannel stories manipulatives for stories such as Five Little Monkeys and The Three Little Pigs.
