Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My school is a magnet school that focuses on STEM and World Languages. Each year we have amazing students that bring so many unique personalities and perspectives to our school.

Our 7th and 8th graders come from all around the city to form a community where we focus on our core values of rigor, community, relationships, and drive.

Through innovative programs, we are showing some of the most rapid growth in the state as measured by standardized test score improvement. Instructional time is essential to maintaining and increasing our level of growth in the classroom.

My Project

Our students were supposed to end the school year with an amazing unit around the vignettes of The House on Mango Street. We use this unit as an all-encompassing way to wrap up our academic standards through literature, self-reflection, and narrative writing.

This is an engaging unit that activates student reflection of their own identity and the legacy they wish to establish for themselves.

Our struggle at this time is that we only have class sets, and won't be meeting back in school before the end of the academic school year.
