We are members of a community-oriented school located in an old river town. Many of my learners come from low-income homes with limited access to good books. My students are eager to learn and love expanding their knowledge through hands-on activities and memorable experiences. When presented with a great book, they listen or read intently and are eager to discuss ideas presented in the text. This time presents the opportunity for my students to connect and build relationships! Seeing their progress and motivation is truly heartening!
Providing my students with the gift of literacy is giving them the key to open doors in the future.
With literacy, we can build a foundation for critical thinking, application, and success.
My Project
These tools will help my students gain and build upon literacy skills by providing them with additional practice in reading, word work, and writing. The students will have the chance to read to themselves, as well as to others. This will help them develop their ability to listen and process information while supporting those skills during peer discussion.
One key element these tools will provide is crucial one-on-one time with their teacher.
While students work independently and in peer groups, I will be able to devote individualized instruction to each student, ensuring every student has what they need to be on the track to success! We will use these resources to organize the materials needed to practice Daily 5 lessons each day. Daily 5 is a literacy framework that promotes behaviors of independence, creates a classroom of highly engaged readers, writers, and learners, and provides teachers with time and structure to meet diverse student needs.
