My students need more practice with reading. The partner scripts, reading "close" kits and magazines will help them uncover the secret to literacy is practice.
The more you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you will go. - Dr Seuss. In my RTI classroom, I strive to make learning interactive and fun. When students start to feel successful, they want to read more.
Our school is located in a rural setting.
We have about 500 kids in the elementary. The students I work with need additional time and practice in reading. I meet with small groups daily for 25 additional minutes of reading practice specific to the needs of the children.
My Project
I am requesting reading kits, stories on CD, partner scripts, non-fiction magazines and post-it tabs. All of these products will be used in small groups. We will be able to practice close reading skills with the reading kits. Listening to stories on CD will help students hear what a fluent reader sounds like. Then, the kids can practice their fluency skills with the partner scripts. The non-fiction cards and magazines will enrich their background knowledge and learn about current events. The post-it tabs will be used for finding strategies during reading.
The reading supplies will provide the neediest children with new resources and make reading fun!
Many of our supply budgets have been cut and this will allow for new items. My hope is that these children will be excited to read and want to read more.
