Don't we all love a good story? We love to cheer on the hero and boo the bad guy. Along the way, we learn important lessons about the world, and ourselves.
I love coming to school each day to be with my students. They have a joy in life and learning that I try to cultivate in myself as their teacher. Their curiosity reminds me to never stop learning.
My Project
Literacy is so important! The ability to read and write determine much of our success in the world. My students who speak Spanish at home could use some extra support. They love reading, but need help with vocabulary and reading comprehension.
Bilingual stories show bilingual students that their language is valued.
Many times these students feel marginalized in an English-only classroom. However, bilingualism is a wonderful skill to have! These materials will show my students that their home language is of value, while helping them use the skills they already have to increase their proficiency in English.
Bilingual stories and flash cards will help them develop vocabulary by providing translations to help them transfer their Spanish vocabulary into English. This will boost their confidence and reading comprehension. Ultimately, literacy and bilingualism will help them be successful in life.
