My Students

I manage a K-3 self-contained Special Education classroom. My students have a wide range of capabilities as well as disabilities. These disabilities vary greatly, and limit the amount of time my students can spend in a general education classroom because they require extra academic, social and vocational support. All instruction has to be adapted to meet their unique needs, so new materials are always needed in the classroom. My students are bright, quirky, loving, intelligent people that enjoy working with their peers and exploring the world around them.

My Project

Many of my students are unable to read or write independently. Adapted Books meet their literacy and other individual curricular needs by providing hands-on access to concepts in all academic areas. From matching shapes, to identifying beginning sounds to matching sentences to appropriate scenarios, adapted books cover all areas of content my students will be exposed to. All of these books are created by me with a printer, card stock, laminate sheets, velcro and binder rings. These books are vital to keeping my students engaged and able to access all the academic areas in the classroom on a daily basis.
