Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My students come from Spanish-speaking homes and most do not have exposure to English-speakers until kindergarten.
I work at a Title I school where 90% of my students are living in poverty. My early learners are eager and excited to learn how to read but they are at a clear disadvantage than most students that are native to the English language. The American school system is based on the English language and if my students fall behind in early elementary they will likely be playing a game of catch-up their entire life. I am dedicated to ensuring my students become English language readers and speakers before they leave my classroom.
My Project
The 5 iPods and audio books I have requested for my classroom are a step to ensuring my students get daily exposure to English readers. While most students in affluent neighborhoods have parents that read to them every night - my students' parents do not read or speak English. The iPods will be used daily to engage my students in reading and learning the English language.
My vision for my early learners is to create a love for reading.
Watching a student read a book for the first time is an unforgettable memory. Please help make my vision a reality.
