My students need a spiral coil binding machine, binding coils, a thermal laminator, and laminating pouches to created adapted reading materials so that all students can access a reading curriculum.
“Everybody is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid.” I am a special education teacher who truly believes in equal access to learning for all students--despite disability or diagnosis. My students need exciting, structured activities to truly show their knowledge and potential.
Our class is a beautiful representation of human diversity.
They are a mixed bunch between third and fifth grade who love to sing, dance, quote their favorite books or shows, pick flowers, dress up, collect acorns, run, jump, and express their passion for life in the most beautiful ways. They are brilliant young scholars who are finding their way in a world that is not quite designed for them, and I am their tour guide for a few precious years on this crazy journey we call life.
My Project
My students access their learning differently than most. They often need interactive, hands-on adapted educational opportunities to engage and grow. Because literacy is a skill for a lifetime, I want to help my students gain meaningful literacy skills. This is accomplished through reading books adapted to engage their level and style of learning.
I adapt books from various resources: beloved children's books, resources from Reading A-Z, and curriculum-based materials.
By adding visuals to reading material, creating objects or pictures for students to match their story while reading, and developing comprehension questions with picture choices for students to answer within a story, I am able to make literacy instruction accessible and meaningful for all students. By helping me to get the supplies needed to support my students' literacy instructions, such as a binding machine and thermal laminator, you are aiding them in developing skills that they will utilize for a lifetime!
