I teach middle level students who are learning English as a second language. The majority come from the Philippines and various island nations of Micronesia. They need language support to be successful in their regular classes, as well as navigating their new environment.
I believe that language learners learn best through peer collaboration with hands-on, visual learning opportunities.
I aim to work with their regular content teachers to co-facilitate lessons where all students can learn and thrive. I also strongly believe in arts-integration as a powerful tool for learning.
My Project
This summer I moved schools and now teach students who are English language learners (ELL) in a middle school. All of my DonorsChoose.org materials had to stay at my old school, so I am starting over!
To be successful in learning English, students need lessons that are collaborative, hands-on, visual, and engaging.
In order to facilitate these lessons, I need a few basics: a stand to hold a pocket chart for collaborative paragraph lessons, clipboards so students can work anywhere in the room, and book sets with low reading level and high interest for teaching small literacy groups.
These materials will help my classes run smoother and help set my students up for success!
