Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students come to my classroom by way of 6 continents, profound life experiences, and with a strong desire to learn. We are an urban high school in a neighborhood of Boston and have about 750 students in total. I teach about 100 of them in my three history classes for ESL students who recently immigrated to the USA and my one AP psychology class.
My students astound me every day with their drive to succeed and take in as much as they can about the world around them.
I am truly optimistic for the future because these young men and women are the leaders of tomorrow. My students deserve an education without limits and I am determined to make this possible. Thank you for visiting this page and learning more about my class!
My Project
Thank you for reading about my project "Literacy = Empowerment!" I am particularly excited about this project because I am constantly looking for resources to help me grow as a literacy coach to my students. I teach 3 sections of ESL history to students who have been in the US for less than two years. Many of my students lack formal education and thus are at elementary levels of reading and writing. After asking colleagues and researching books online, I settled on the titles included in this request.
The books in this project will help me to empower my students with the literacy skills needed for success in academics and the workplace.
I am so excited at the possibility of growing as an educator with these invaluable resources. Thank you again for considering a donation to my project.
