The library is the hub of the school; the center of learning for our diverse population. Our school is located in an area where parents are working full time and depend on us to be an extension of their family. Many of our families rely on the various programs offered to supplement their basic needs. Our school provides breakfast and lunch for 100% of our students and is also very ethnically diverse with our students speaking a multitude of languages besides English. As diverse as our students are economically and culturally, they are equally as diverse in their academics.
"Preparing Today For Tomorrow's World," is our daily focus when preparing the leaders of tomorrow at our school!
School libraries can be a very effective tool in closing the achievement gap for our less fortunate and minority students. It is my goal to create a library program that will give my students a better chance to succeed by creating critical thinkers, enthusiastic readers, skillful researchers, and ethical users of information who are ready for 21st century life and careers.
My Project
I am requesting headphones with microphones so the scholars in my school will be able to use literacy programs such as Imagine Learning to record and listen to themselves read. Being able to listen to themselves read will allow them to become better readers, develop literacy processing, and lay the foundation for thinking like a successful reader.
Literacy changes lives and is an investment in the future.
It is my goal to provide an environment where every scholar has a chance to become a successful reader. Reading is the gateway to the world. How amazing it is when a child can hear themselves becoming a reader!
