Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I am a first grade teacher in the South Bronx. I teach all of the subjects, but I personally find balanced literacy the most challenging. After I teach a mini-lesson, my students are supposed to go off and read independently. Some of my students are able to do this without a problem, but my students that are below grade level cannot. They require more instruction with: * Identifying uppercase and lowercase letters * Letter sounds * Recognizing CVC words * Initial & final sounds * Forming letters * Rhyming sounds * Copying printed words * Medial vowel sounds * Word patterns * Recognizing sight-words * Matching blends/digraphs * Phoneme substitution * Word syllables * Sentences I know that the Instant Literacy Center kits from Lakeshore Learning will definitely help my students. They will absolutely love them. These learning centers are filled with engaging activities that reinforce literacy skills. My students and I will be so grateful to receive our own Instant Literacy Center kits. These centers make learning fun and enjoyable!
