Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Encourage the love of reading! Every day I teach my students reading skills and strategies, and they need materials to put those skills into practice. These literacy centers will allow them to practice sounding out and spelling words with fun and engaging activities!
My kindergarteners are incredibly kind and loving.
Even though they've only been in school a few weeks, they have developed strong bonds with one another and are constantly giving one another encouragement. They truly are a "class family" and show great empathy and concern for each other.
My Project
We need need literacy centers, phonics puzzles and games as well as word building puzzles to practice early reading skills. These resources will help my students practice reading and spelling words by blending sounds, building sight words, and matching words to pictures. They will use these activities in small teams to learn cooperatively and to promote positive social and academic interaction with their peers. Having them engaged in these activities will also allow me to work with small groups to provide focused reading instruction at differentiated levels.
My school's motto is "College for Certain" because we believe that every child deserves a quality education that will see them to and through college.
In order to begin preparing them for college from the start, my goal is for every kindergartener who enters my classroom to leave as a reader. For me, merely teaching the alphabet does not provide enough rigor, and this project will help me teach necessary reading skills to my students.
