We are a busy first-grade community full of twenty-two eager and dedicated learners who enjoy using varied strategies throughout our academic adventures in the classroom. Learning happens in a variety of ways, and we utilize different styles such as hands-on materials, technology, and group and peer discussion and collaboration in every subject area. We are huge believers in centers and guided reading and math lessons, whole group and small group!
My students are a close-knit group of individuals who together make up a unique and diverse family for each other.
We are a self-contained classroom in a k-5 setting at a rural, Title I school in Eugene, Oregon. Being a Title I school means that we offer academic support and learning opportunities to all students based on serving a high percentage of socioeconomically disadvantaged families.
My Project
Literacy rotations are done daily for 30-45 minutes in three separate rotations. It's a great time for students to meet in small groups that target their reading skills at a differentiated level. Keeping the rotations fresh and fun is always a challenge, especially during Covid, when sanitizing materials, and consumable products are still essential for learning.
This project will provide digital and printable opportunities for learning during literacy centers in the classroom.
It will give students two new Osmo games, which will promote teamwork, technological awareness, and math skills. It will also give students various literacy center materials used for writing/reading around the room, and other literacy center games that can be laminated for easy cleaning and paired with a consumable worksheet. These games and activities can be done independently or with group members to foster teamwork and collaboration in learning. The literacy center games and materials would be purchased through Teachers Pay Teachers, an amazing digital marketplace created by and for teachers so that they can share beneficial resources they have used and created.
