Coming from a Title 1 school with over a 60% mobility rate - that does not stop our learning. My students are enthusiastic little learners who are eager to become proficient readers. I am a specialist on campus and my students are the ones who need the most support in the area of reading. I meet in small groups with over 40 students daily to help teach/support them in reading skills.
My students have many challenges in and out of the school setting, I want to support them and have reading as one of their strengths, not a challenge.
My Project
All students learn in different ways! In order to be able to meet the needs of all learners, I would like to request hands on activities to support children in the area of early literacy development or reading strategies.
Creating opportunities for hands-on learning in and out of the classroom can provide another way for students to grasp difficult concepts.
A literacy center is designated for specific learning purposes. It is designed to provide appropriate materials to help students work independently or collaboratively (with partners, in small groups or with parents) to meet literacy goals.
Some of the materials requested are; sight word pack, which includes everything families need to play a hands on game that boosts sight word skills. Plus, the pack comes with a simple, step-by-step instruction card in English and Spanish. This way busy families can jump right in! Family Reading Comprehension pack, develops skills in reading comprehension, main topic & key details, identifying feelings, comparing & contrasting, point of view, character study, story elements and retelling. Also, Family Reading Comprehension pack which helps develop skills in reading comprehension, main topic & key details, identifying feelings, comparing & contrasting, point of view, character study, story elements and retelling. Having these materials for families to check out will bring an emphasis of importance to education in the home.
Participating in meaningful and purposeful literacy activities on a regular basis could produce positive effects on reading skills being learned.
