As a teacher in a large and expanding school district, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking to enrich my students' learning experiences by providing opportunities to connect Fine Arts with STEM related curriculum.
My students love to challenge themselves each day.
They are excited to explore the world of art through traditional and digital media platforms. My students are also highly interested in learning how new skills can translate into multiple content areas. They take pride in their efforts and are willing to challenge their minds for the sake of pushing the boundaries of what they can do.
My Project
My students need reliable art news resources and activities that focus on the literacy skills necessary to read informational text for a given content are. Our students will use digital and traditional Scholastic Art materials to develop and enhance their ability to decipher information which will help them learn how to independently and collaboratively research and interpret content related media resources! During the first week of a new project, my students must learn concepts which are based on the Elements of Art and Principles of Design. The first week concentrates around learning the concepts and Scholastic Art magazine will be used as a resource to show how past and contemporary master artists developed and used these concepts for the creation of their own artwork. Students will explore this information in small groups in class and individually for digital homework on Google Classroom in order to work towards understanding what media is reliable for their content and what is not.
Your generous donation to our project for Scholastic Art will improve our middle school visual arts classroom by building stronger readers for any content area.
This project is data driven, based on the scores received from state and district assessments for literacy and reading comprehension skills, it is area that I want my students to focus on in order to be come more successful.
We have been using Scholastic Art already, but our subscription is about to run out. This resource provides examples of both print and digital media resources which help to enrich learning and teach responsible use of digital media. By helping to support us, you are showing our students that it is important to use literacy skills outside of their core classrooms and apply them anywhere in life.
