Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

I teach in a low income community serving 1st and 2nd grade scholars mainly in literacy. On an average day I interact with over 100 curious minds. These scholars are not afraid of a challenge and push pass any preconceived stereotypes about them. They crave new and interesting ways to interact with literacy. They thrive when given the space to explore where their personal interests overlap with the curriculum content. My scholars love to use technology integration to present their own book reports, create images that show theme and have begun to explore the benefits of audiobooks and eBooks. They are the face of 21st century scholars!

My Project

These tablets and headphones will build scholars' literacy engagement by giving them access to texts in visual and audio form. They will also be used for independent reading projects. Our public library system has recently launched a program to give students free access to audiobooks, eBooks and educational streaming content. With this access students will have unlimited access to a variety of books!

Scholars will have the freedom to choose their own books giving them more opportunities to enjoy independent reading time!

My scholars are avid readers and opening their literary world and exposing them to more texts will only foster a more personal love of reading!
