Mrs. Wheeler from Myrtle Beach SC is requesting technology through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.

Literacy And Technology In Science? Oh My!

My students need additional literacy and technology supplies, like a solar car and Science World magazine, to supplement their science education.

My Students

The challenge facing my students is that there are several scientific concepts that would be better taught with additional laboratory supplies. In addition, having Science World magazines would let students read about current issues in science. We appreciate any donations that we receive!

Our students are in middle school, grades 5th - 8th.

We are a charter school, and don't have as much funding as a normal public school might have. Our students are bright, innovative, and have the desire to succeed. They really enjoy doing labs, projects, and anything hands-on.

My Project

We are asking for Science World magazines, psychrometer kits, a solar car, and ultraviolet (UV) checkers. Having the Science World magazines would let students read about interesting, and current issues in science. Using a psychrometer is a part of the state standards, and presently we don't have one. The solar car would give students a hands-on, exciting view of solar power! The UV checkers will let students study the use of sunscreen, which is relevant to their health.

These donations will make a difference because students need to opportunity to learn visually and hands-on.

They will also gain skills in literacy with the Science World magazines. With the variety of materials being requested, the students will be able to perform more laboratory activities than were previously possible. Performing these activities and demonstrations will help the students to better grasp the subject matter, and will make science more exciting!
