My students bring a hunger and readiness for learning every day they come in my classroom. My students are a unique bunch with their own personalities and their own challenges. We study anything and everything that interests us. These students come every day ready to grow and ready to explore the world of learning in front of them.
My students are the living embodiment of perseverance.
They come from all different backgrounds. We are located in a low income rural town. Many of my students struggle and are receiving help outside the school. It is so important to me and my team that we get our students now and future students to come, the materials they need to be successful.
My Project
I am requesting three iPads and warranty protection for those iPads in our fourth grade classroom. Our school currently has a goal to increases literacy scores and get students excited about reading! It is my belief, that technology could help us reach that goal. While opening a paper bound book is awesome, sometimes it is nice to have something read to you.
Technology can be the key to unlocking a student's success in literacy.
There are many apps available that would allow students to have a personalized library, record themselves reading, and even give them strategies to increase fluency and comprehension. As an example, Epic! is an online personalized library where students choose categories they are interested in. They may then choose an audio book or interactive book to read. A tool like this would give students the opportunity to have a choice in what their literacy learning looks like and help them create the path to becoming fantastic readers.
Students would also use the devices to help them in their writing. Apps that allow students to have the iPad type while they talk can eliminate stress and allow them to reach their full potential as young writers. Students often have amazing imaginations and ideas, but trouble getting them written down. Being able to eliminate this problem and encourage students to write more will only benefit them.
