My Students
Our school serves students from Kindergarten through 8th grade. I teach 7th grade science to all 100 7th graders, including gifted students and students with special needs. Most of the students have been in the school together since they were in kindergarten. Our school has a strong sense of community and teachers know the students and their families. Our school has students who love to learn and are excited about science! They are energetic, helpful, smart and always try their best!
My Project
My students are conducting experiments in a botany lab that is similar to the one on the International Space Station. I would like to incorporate literacy into our project by reading The Martian as a class. The novel is high interest and will encourage a lifetime love of reading. It is important for my low level readers as well as my advanced readers because many students at every reading level have a hard time understanding the value of reading for both enjoyment and for learning. This novel will allow us to read fiction and apply the ideas to real world concepts.
