My Students
I teach at a Head Start program in South Chicago. A majority of our students come from low-income families. Many of my students are also dual language learners. Most of my students join my classroom at just three years of age and stay with us until they transition to kindergarten.
Having the opportunity to watch my students grow, develop new skills, and learn over a two year period is extremely rewarding.
I get to see them come in as shy three's, and walk out as confident five's. Although many of my students come from low-income families, their curiosity, their energy, and their eagerness to come to school to socialize and learn is inspiring!
My Project
Literacy and math area huge part of our preschool days, and the best way to keep my students engaged is to continue to rotate materials for them to explore with. The same is true for extending Learning in our sand and water tables. Unfortunately, at the moment, we don’t have much of a variety and they’re getting bored, even when we rotate materials.
These new items will without a doubt spark new adventures in Learning!
I think they’ll especially enjoy the stand up magnetic wipe and write center. I cannot wait to use this stand during large group gatherings as we talk about letters, numbers, and shapes using the magnetic pattern blocks. All of the activities we’ve been using baking sheets for will now have bigger and new meaning when used on the stand.
The float and find letter bubbles will extend literacy learning in the water table. Children will be encouraged to identify the object and give its beginning sound. They’ll be able to turn the bubble over and see if they are correct. How fun!
The write and wipe boards and magic boards will be placed in our literacy area and will be used for letter formation practice.
We’ll use these materials to rotate and encourage literacy and math learning in all areas of the classroom. With these materials, my preschoolers will have so many more options to explore an learn!
