Mrs. McGill from Snellville GA is requesting books through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
Help me give my students books in Spanish that will assist them with literacy strategies that cross the borders of translation! Books of all types help us learn information in both languages using topics of their own interest!

I have the opportunity to teach students that inspire me to be a better teacher every day. My students are full of vibrant energy and curious about the world around them, but they are very limited in their ability to explore it. While the majority of my students have the desire to continue to post-secondary education, many of them do not understand the competitive nature of that step. I want to help prepare them for the world that they will enter after high school, whether what they find is college or a career.
We are a very unique student population of 67% free/reduced-priced lunch and 96% minority; we are fighters, learning the importance of education when we come from mostly working class.
This, in itself, shows that our community is persistent and that we will overcome the obstacles put in front of us, but only if the necessity of education is instilled properly!
I am going to use literacy skills that will transcend language and assist in learning how to understand what you are reading! I want to employ literacy strategies in Spanish that link clearly to literacy skills in any language to ultimately equip students with abilities that have passed them by in previous years or that will help them surpass the expected current level.
Because I am teaching literacy in a new language, we can use pre-reading strategies, during-reading activities, and post-reading work to make sure that students gain problem-solving skills that link words, helping them enhance their lexicons, read with less effort, comprehend everything they encounter, as well as produce language of increasingly higher levels!
I can employ these strategies best with a variety of books so that students can choose something of personal interest to them.
