Literacy and Art Integration for Special Education Students

My Project

I teach art at a kindergarten through 12th grade special education school in an urban setting. My students are placed in my school because of their intense emotional needs. Many of them have experienced trauma and need a place with consistency and routine.

My art classes provide my special education students with a space to express themselves and decompress.

Every month we learn about a new artist and my students love to explore each artist's history and work. Through this collection of diverse art-focused books, my students will be able to not only read the books as a class, but also use them to insprire their artwork.
