Help me give my students literacy activities to make reading and writing fun and exciting with pretend play, engineering letter projects, and word-building cooperative games!
This project expired on June 6, 2019.
Hooray! This project is fully funded
Describing a class as a whole is difficult, because I feel each student brings their own unique qualities to the table. But, I can confidently say that each child brings passion and curiosity into the classroom.
As a Title 1 school, many students come from poverty stricken homes, whose parents are working 2-3 jobs, all hours of the day.
Students are not given the luxury of going to museums or having exploration experiences.
I believe it is my job to bring these experiences to the classroom, where ALL students are given the opportunity to observe, wonder, and learn. Our classroom extends beyond textbooks, to bring their world alive. Meaningful learning must extend from books to hands-on learning.
With a classroom full of young students, a teacher needs to find activities that are both educational and academic. We need to find things that will bring their literacy learning alive!
We are seeking letter and word activities that will be engaging for students to immerse themselves in as well as progress their ability to read and write.
Items we are requesting include:
Encouraging Writing with a Pretend Play "post office" using the Stamp and Sort Wooden Mailbox Activity and books about the Post-Office.
Letter engineering with Learning Puzzle Beginning Sounds, AlphaPops Matching, Alphabet Lacing, and Letter Jewels.
Letter Sound games such as Zingo Sight Words, Spelligator, Swat a Sight Word and Word-a-Melon to promote cooperative group learning and letter building skills.
Finally, a storage bench with Moose books to create an inviting place for students to play and learn.
