Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My scholars are a group of diverse, driven, and hard working individuals. At their early age, my students are learning the value of being bilingual members of their community while at the same time embracing multiculturalism. Students in my classroom are enrolled in the the Dual Immersion program at our site. Dual Language Immersion offers a rigorous and enriching bilingual experience for our students. English speaking students are immersed with Spanish speakers and together through collaboration and classroom community they support one another daily with their academic and social skills.
Our classroom is a space of learning, challenges, and overall growth.
I see how much passion and perseverance my student learn to foster in our classroom. The challenge of learning a second language brings a fresh and engaging environment of learning. They are a daily reminder to me that hard work, consistency and determination goes a long way. My students are proud of their journey towards bilingualism, and I am even more proud to continue to foster and encourage their love for learning.
My Project
My students love learning about the world around them. They love using the information they learn and sharing it with their families and friends. I would love for each of my students to receive their own copies of current events magazines that they could proudly read and share with each other in the classroom, and with their families.
Each magazine has science, social studies, social economics, health, and safety topics that is engaging and fun for students to enjoy learning.
Students are introduced to financial literacy, environmental science, art, math, authors, and just general knowledge about the world we live in. Scholastic Magazine's main focus is to build content knowledge, vocabulary, and early reading skills like concepts of print, phonics, and sight-word recognition, which makes these magazines an ideal resource for me to give to my students. These will be an amazing component to have in our daily learning. My students will be able to be responsible and practice their reading with content that is engaging and exciting every week!
