My Students
My students attend a Title I charter school in Houston, Texas where nearly 100% of our students receive free breakfast and lunch. Despite many hardships, my students are college bound, eager to learn, and always do their best.
Many of our students, teachers, and staff lost many things during Hurricane Harvey.
We've lost students from our school because they were displaced. Months later we are still recovering from the devastation of the hurricane.
Although our community has experienced so much devastation as a result of Hurricane Harvey, our students have a determination to succeed and are committed to going to college!
My Project
These literacy games like Catch Phrase, Jenga, Word Slam, and Mind Your Language will definitely make a difference in students' learning by building reading comprehension, vocabulary and fluency. Students will be introduced to new words and in the process, help build their understanding. Motivating students to read is a real challenge particularly for the secondary school teachers. Having "fun" methods for students to build reading skills such as literacy games significantly improves student motivation.
By donating to our project, you will help students impacted by Hurricane Harvey improve academic achievement.
Problems in reading can affect performance across several academic content areas, occupational endeavors, and other functional skills that are used in everyday life activities.
