Help me give my students a more diverse selection of Literature Circle books. I want to incorporate Kwame Alexander books for my Lit Circles because he writes in poetry form with diverse characters.
I work at an amazing middle school in Edmond, Oklahoma. My students are awesome sixth graders that show me every day the greatness they have inside them. I teach Literacy and seeing my students get engaged in reading brings me so much joy.
The way my sixth graders get excited about reading something new makes me proud of what the next generation has to offer our world!
Their insights of the novels we have read together shows me that our middle schoolers are going to be World Changers!
My Project
I want to expand my students' exposure to different types of writing in Literature Circles. Lit Circles are a way for students to independently read as a group. Lit Circles help my students to read and discuss with their peers. I want to incorporate Kwame Alexander books because he is an author that writes in poetry form using diverse characters. His books are relatable to middle schoolers and lets students see that writing comes in all forms within novels.
These books will engage my students while creating great Lit Circle conversations.
Kwame Alexander books will prompt positive conversations regarding family relations, sports, fine arts, and teen years. I know my students will see themselves within the diverse characters Kwame Alexander has created. I can't wait to hear all the in depth conversations these novels will create in Lit Circles.
